Charles R. "Chuck" SterlingSeptember 30, 1950 - October 25, 2017Lovettsville, VACharles Richard ("Chuck") Sterling passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 as the result of a farm equipment accident. Chuck was born on September 30, 1950 in Bradford, PA to the late Betty Bullock Sterling and Charles Glenn Sterling. Most of his youth was spent in Bradford. The family then moved to Blue Ridge Summit, PA where Chuck developed his passion for shop class, cars and motorcycles. He also developed a love of literature, particularly the plays of William Shakespeare and works of J.R.R. Tolkien, especially Lord of the Rings. Chuck graduated from Waynesboro High School in 1968, at the age of seventeen. At the time, he was too young to go to work for Mack Truck, so he worked other jobs until he became of age to be employed by Mack Truck, following in the footsteps of his Father. Chuck then became a manufacturing technician with Mack Truck until he retired in 2001.Chuck is survived by his beloved wife, June McKimmey Sterling, who he married on November 12, 2002. Chuck and June loved to travel and camp, particularly in the Southwestern United States, where they met many new friends. Chuck had a lifelong love of motorcycling and classic cars, particularly Ford Mustangs and 1964 Ford Galaxie 500's. In addition to being an avid lifelong reader, Chuck was a lover of all varieties of music with over 6,000 songs on his IPod. To relax, Chuck had taken up landscape painting in the acrylic medium, meditation, and had learned signing so that he could communicate even more fully with those within his circle of friends who were hearing impaired. Additionally, Chuck had a loving compassion for all four and two legged creatures both big and small, most recently Harley, his beloved late rescue dog and Lanky, the family's friendly rescue cat. In addition to his wife, Chuck is survived by his four sisters including Peggy Denton of Fayetteville, Karen Sanders and her husband, Charles of Fayetteville, Susan Montgomery and her husband, Jay of Knox, PA and Janet McIntyre of Newville. Chuck also leaves behind his stepson, Kevin Warner, of the home. He is also survived by his two sons, Brandon L. Sterling of Longmont, CO and Matthew D. Sterling of Manchester, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life for Chuck will be held at a date to be determined. A private burial service will be held in the Greenhill Cemetery in Waynesboro.
