Smet, CeciliaCecilia A. Smet, age 90, of Sherwood, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. She was born on March 27, 1926 to the late Fred and Catherine (Meulemans) Schuh. She married Joseph Smet on April 8, 1948 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Freedom, Wisconsin. Together Ceil and Joe operated their family dairy farm for the majority of their marriage. Ceil worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a candy striper before her marriage. After she married, she was a full-time devoted wife and mother. She lived her life giving to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren always knew that Grandma would have chocolate chip cookies and suckers when they arrived for visits. Ceil was known for always putting everyone's needs before her own. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church as well as the Saint Ann Society. She enjoyed her weekly Sherwood Ladies Bowling League, playing Sheepshead with friends and family, crocheting and needle point. Survivors include her husband, Joe; her children, Jane (Robert) Schaefer, Patricia (Dennis) Dakins, Sandra (David) Broeren and Joe (Laura) Smet; thirteen grandchildren, Kalla (Randy) Wirtz, Rob (Beth) Schaefer, Nicole (Brian) Kerrigan, Tara Dakins, Todd (Kelly) Dakins, Becky (special friend Chris Kraemer) VandenBoogaard, Jaren VandenBoogaard, Eric VandenBoogaard, Kami (Chad) Clink, Keli (special friend Kyle Olson) Broeren, Kristi Smet, Jake Smet, and Cassie (special friend Austin Dins) Smet; twelve great-grandchildren, Alex Wirtz, Maxton Wirtz, Christian Wirtz, Ella Wirtz, Norah Schaefer, Carah Schaefer, Kaitlyn Kerrigan, Carson Kerrigan, Ethan Rabideau, Even Rabideau, Kaleb Dakins and Khloe Dakins; son-in-law, Bryan VandenBoogaard; sister, Rita Tessen; brothers, James (Judy) Schuh and Ted Schuh; sister-in-law, Margaret Bowers and brothers-in-law, Clarence (Margaret) Smet, Francis Smet and Jerry Smith. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Jo VandenBoogaard, her in-laws, Peter (Katherine) Smet; sisters, Virginia Martin and Delores Smith; brothers, Harold Schuh and Richard Schuh; sisters and brothers-in-law, Pat Schuh, Betty Schuh, Shirley Schuh, Bud Schlimm, Katie Schlimm, John Wallace, Josie Wallace, Norman Bowers, Marion Smet, Edward Smet, Lee Tessen, Germaine Smet and Joe Martin. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, N 369 Military Road in Sherwood.
