Cecil LeRoy FawcettJanuary 23, 1929 - March 26, 2016Cecil LeRoy Fawcett, loving husband, devoted and caring father, and "grandpa perfect" passed peacefully to his eternal home on Saturday, March 26, 2016. Cecil was born on January 23, 1929 in Basalt, Idaho to Henry Ernest and Arvilla Dye Fawcett. Cecil was the second child, and only son, of three children born to Ernest and Arvilla. Cecil attended schools in Basalt, Mackay, and Ashton. He graduated early as a junior from Idaho Falls High School in 1946. Cecil was active in the school band. He loved music, airplanes, trains, and watching cloud formations.Cecil joined the 116th Engineers, Army National Guard in 1946 where he served in active duty in Korea. He later transferred to U.S. Army Reserve where he retired as a Lt. Colonel after 37 years. Cecil met the love of his life, A. Bernice Butler at a party in Shelley, Idaho. They soon became inseparable and were married May 16, 1948. They were sealed January 23, 1950 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Cecil was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities, including Bishop of the Groveland Ward, and in the Idaho Falls Temple.Cecil and Bernice wanted a large family and when they were told they could not have more children, their faith in Heavenly Father sustained them in fulfilling their dream. Cecil was the greatest father to six sons and two daughters.Cecil provided for his family in many technical careers. He worked for the INEL site as a Design Engineer from 1955-1966. Moving to Blackfoot and working for American Potato from 1966 to 1977. Cecil then returned to the INL where he worked until his retirement. Cecil was very artistic and enjoyed creating intricately designed clocks and wall hangings that his family will enjoy for many years.Cecil was preceded in death by his son Merlin LeRoy, sister Dorothy, mother Arvilla Dye Fawcett, father, Henry Ernest Fawcett and sister Juanita June Emerick. He is survived by his wife, Bernice; and children: Dan (Betty) Fawcett of Blackfoot, ID; Rick (Shana) Fawcett of Pocatello, ID; David (Jane) Fawcett of Lehi, UT; Linda (Rod) Mattson of Blackfoot, ID; Richard (Lorna) Fawcett of Blackfoot, ID; Robert (Christina) Fawcett of Yakima, WA; and Pat (Shane) Hart of Lander, WY. Cecil was known as "grandpa perfect" to his 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren because whenever they asked how he was feeling he would always answer "perfect". Cecil was an honest, genuine, person who loved his family unconditionally. The family will receive friends at Hawker Funeral Home in Blackfoot from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 and an hour prior to the funeral. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Groveland LDS Church. Burial will be at the Ammon Cemetery.
