Carolyn Smith Obituary

Feb 01, 2016 - Sep 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Carolyn Evelyn (Miller) Smith of Bardwell, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2009, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. The daughter of William and Mary Bartridge Miller was born on a snowy Feb. 11, 1931, on the family farm that still sits on a hill in Bardwell in Tunkhannock Township. Carolyn attended elementary school at the one-room school house in Bardwell and lived and raised her family beside that schoolhouse until it was razed in 2004. She graduated from Tunkhannock High School Class of 1949 and also considered her Associate in Arts degree from Keystone Junior College in 1989 one of her greatest accomplishments. She was a member of the Lake Sheridan Bible Chapel. Carolyn was a homemaker who also worked outside the home having been employed at Tunkhannock's Methodist Manor, Bendix of South Montrose and Procter & Gamble's Mehoopany plant. She married Robert Smith on Dec. 3, 1949, in Factoryville. Bob passed away Sept. 21, 2008. She is survived by three children and their spouses: Sandy and Ken Stroech, Randy and Sharon Smith, and Wendy and Keith Yurkzsa; and eight grandchildren: Randy Robert, Michael, Chris, Nathan, Raymond, Jared, Jessie and Fawn. She has four great grandchildren, two being raised by loving families who are unknown to her and two are the children of Nathan and Julie Donahue: 'Little Nate' and Ashley Rose. She is also survived by twin sisters Florence Jervis and Frances Gibbons of Factoryville, who are 91 years young. Carolyn was proud to have been raised in a large family and her sisters were dearest to her. Their gatherings for birthdays and holidays were some of her fondest memories. She was preceded in death by brothers Henry Dickson and Fred Miller; and sisters Wilhelmina Cooper, Mabel Wickizer, Viola Krachanko and Irene Mooer. Her family that remains knows that she's safe and out of pain in the arms of her family that went before her. Carolyn was a wonderful cook, baked the best apple pie in six counties and had an amazing love of all animals including her precious cat, 'Baby.' She will be missed by her church, her family and her friends. A funeral service was held Monday afternoon, July 6, at the Harding-Litwin Funeral Home, 123 W. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, with Pastor James Wentz officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Lake Sheridan Bible Chapel.
