Carolyn Broberg Faris5/22/1938 - 12/07/2013Carolyn Nielsen Broberg-Faris passed away December 7, 2013, at the age of 75 due to complications from Alzheimer's. Carolyn was born on May 22, 1938 in Logan, Utah to Hervin and LaRue (Clarke) Nielsen. She spent her early years in Downey and in 1953 moved to Pocatello. Carolyn graduated from Pocatello High School in 1956 and then attended Utah State University. She married Richard Broberg in the Logan Temple June 2, 1961. They lived and raised their four sons and one daughter in Pocatello. They were blessed with 46 years of marriage; Richard passed away in August of 2007. In March of 2009, Carolyn married Gary Faris and they have enjoyed the last 4 1/2 years together.Carolyn appreciated music and was a member of the Pocatello Municipal Band. She played the flute during their weekly summer concert series at Ross Park. Carolyn served faithfully in the LDS church in multiple positions, creating lifelong friendships especially with the good people of the 6th/Princeton Ward. Her labors also included serving with Richard, presiding over the Norway-Oslo mission, where she developed a love for the missionaries, members and people of Norway. Her compassion for others shined brightly right up until the end of her life. In her earlier years Carolyn worked for the Forrest Service and as a Licensed Real Estate Agent. Her main focus has always been as a dedicated mother and homemaker. Our mother has blessed our lives with laughter, much joy and happiness. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and she will be greatly missed by us all. We love you Mom. Carolyn is survived by her husband, Gary, 4 sons, David (Debbie), Simi Valley, Ca.; Mark (Tara), Mapleton, Ut.; Michael, Provo, Ut.; Scott (Jennifer), Pocatello; and one daughter, Kathryn, Pocatello; and 8 grandchildren, Cori, Espen, Anika, Kendra, Britta, Kristen, Bergen & Seth Broberg. She is also survived by her brother, Clarke (Doris) Nielsen, and Sister, Anna Louise (Alan) Medaris.Carolyn was preceded in death by her first husband, parents and one grandson, Tyler. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 11 am at the Pocatello LDS Princeton Ward Chapel, 42 Princeton Ave., with Bishop Christopher Owens officiating. The family will receive friends at the Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave., Friday, December 13th from 6-8 p.m., and at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday prior to the services. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Gardens following the services.
