Carol BestMERKEL, TXCarol W. Best, 88, passed away Saturday, October 7, 2017, surrounded by his family.Carol was born on April 5, 1929, to Fenton and Georgia Best. He was a member of the Merkel Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon for many years. He farmed and custom cut wheat for a number of years in the Noodle area. He also owned and worked Best Garage for over 20 years and later worked at John Deere as a shop foreman before retiring. Carol was involved in helping secure Noodle water meters. He also served as a member of the Noodle School Board. Carol married Martina Denny August 5, 1950, and together they had four sons. In his free time Carol enjoyed woodworking, camping, and small project tinkering. Carol is survived by his wife, Martina Best of Merkel; son, Tommy Best and wife Phyllis of Jacksboro and Steve Best and wife Becky of Merkel. Carol is also survived by five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.Carol was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Gary and Paul; and his siblings, Bill and Nina.Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM, Tuesday, October 10, 2017, at the Merkel Church of Christ. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Starbuck Funeral Home, Merkel, Texas.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Tuesday/Thursday School or to Rosehill Cemetery.
