Carmen Zavala was born in Managua, Nicaragua on May 31, 1931. She immigrated to the United States with her family when she was 14 years old. At 18 years old, she married Ernesto Wheelock Sr. at Saint Peter de Paul Church in San Francisco.
Carmen raised her children in Nicaragua but returned to the US in the late 70’s and remained here permanently.
Carmen was a very lively and sociable person. She enjoyed hosting and cooking for family and friends. Her generosity and hospitality was known by many. Carmen’s bright spirit will be greatly missed. She is survived by her son, Ernesto “Tito” Wheelock, her daughter Socorro “Coco” Wheelock, her sister, Melba Angulo, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews
