Carl Roderick Smith, 75, of Montrose, PA, passed away peacefully with his wife of 50 years, Betty, by his side after a four year struggle with Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy. Carl was born on February 21, 1940 in Bridgewater Twp. to the later Roderick and Nina (Allen) Smith.Carl is also survived by his two children and their spouses, Jami and Christopher Bistocchi, Allen and Gloria Smith; five grandchildren, Hannah, Genna, Cosmo, Georgia, and Gelina; siblings, Esther McLaughlin Glenn and Harold (Tuffy) Smith; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Nelson, Elmer, Walter and George; and his sister, Evelyn.Carl was born and raised in Montrose on his family's farm, The RODEL. He attended Montrose High School and then entered the U.S. Marine Corps where he served for six years and played baseball for the Marines in Puerto Rico. A hardworking, loving husband and father, he loved fishing, hunting, and playing cards with family. He loved and followed his favorite teams the Dodgers and the Rams.A Funeral Service will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home, Montrose, with Rev. Lucas Taylor of the 1st Universalist Church, Brooklyn, officiating. Interment will be in the Montrose Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call on the family from 3 to 5 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.The family will provide flowers, and asks that donations in his memory be made to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Inpatient Unit, 100 Williams St, Dunmore, PA 18512.
