Canuto J. Martinez, 84, a longtime resident of Rainsville, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at New Mexico Behavioral Institute in Las Vegas.He was born on May 21, 1928, in Rociada, to the late Abel Martinez and Eloisa Montoya-Martinez. He was united in marriage to Eva Marrujo. He worked at the Salman Ranch for 15 years, then was self-employed during his cowboy years, buying and selling cattle. A lifelong Catholic he was a member of St. Gertrude Catholic Church, in Mora.He was preceded in death by his wife: Eva Martinez; parents: Abel and Eloisa Martinez; brothers: Alfonso Martinez, Alfredo Martinez, George Martinez, and Eugenio Martinez; sisters: Eumelia Duran and Florence Duran.He is survived by his sons and daughters: Andy Martinez (Susie), Annabelle Mora her husband Roger, Patsy Montoya and her husband Rudy, David Martinez, and Marvin Martinez (Lorraine) all of Rainsville, Carla Martinez and special friend Emo of Las Vegas; former daughters-in-law: Ella Martinez of Holman and Berna Duran of Albuquerque; grandchildren: Frances, Andrew, Kenny, Andrea, Andy Jr., Madeline, Gary, Lisa, Adolph, Dennise, David Jr., and Loretta; 23 great-grandchildren: sister: Lucy Vialpando of Las Vegas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Rosary services were held at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora.Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Gertrude Catholic Church in Mora, with Father James Sanchez as celebrant. Interment was at the Santo Niño Cemetery in Lower Rociada with the following serving as casket bearers: Gary Mora, Adolph Montoya, Derek Pino, David Martinez Jr., Andrew Martinez, and Kenny Martinez.
