Burton Lee WilliamsRedding, CA1935 - 2017On March 18th, 2017 we lost a dear Husband, Father and Friend, Burton Lee Williams. He passed away peacefully at Dignity Health Hospital in Redding, California.Burton Lee Williams was born on December 25, 1935 in Medford, Oregon to Thomas E. Williams and Elsie R. (Newbry) Williams. Burt spent his childhood in the Medford Oregon, Rogue Valley Area.Burt graduated from Medford high School in 1954 and had excelled in Basketball and Track setting school, league and state records. He went on to attend the University of Oregon where he earned his degree in Physical Education and History, Burt was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity and the Oregon Duck Track team. He was fortunate enough to run for the legendary Coach Bill Bowerman. Burt loved the University and was one of their biggest fans. He cheered their victories and agonized over their defeats but he always remained a faithful Duck. Burt's love of Track and Field would greatly influence his professional life as well as the lives of the athletes and coaches that he worked with.In 1966 Burt came to Central Valley High School where he taught History and Physical Education and was the Falcons Track Coach. Burt and Al Rose designed and helped construct the Central Valley Track Facility, which remains in its original setting today. Burt started the Central Valley Invitational Track meet in 1968. He was a member of the Northern Section Track Committee as an NAL representative. As an educator and coach he was beloved by many. In the 1980's Burt taught at Shasta High School an was the girls Tennis Coach. After he retired from coaching, he became a certified Track Official and started many North Section Track and Field Meets for 25 years.In 1995, he married Cindy Wade, who shard his love of the outdoors, fishing and Labrador Retrievers. He was an avid Golfer, skier and fisherman. Burt was the founder of THE SKI KATS, a local coaches group who enjoyed the golf courses an ski areas of Oregon and Northern CA. The Kats, and their families have met continuously for 40 years and Burt "Top Kat" started it all.Burt is survived by his loving wife Cindy, his two sons Rob (Lori) Williams and Jon and Dawn Williams. He leaves behind 3 beautiful grandchildren Madeline, Thomas and Megan and nephews Aaron and Leslie Brown.
