Brigham E. "Ed" EllsworthBrigham Edgar "Ed" Ellsworth, 92, passed away on Wed. Jan. 15, 2014 at the Idaho State Veteran's Home in Pocatello, Idaho.Ed was born on July 24, 1921 in Pocatello, Idaho. He was the second son and fifth child of Curtis and Celesta Ellsworth. He had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. As a child he sang on a local radio station and later in life with a Barbershop Quartet, and with the local Silver Chords singing group. It is said that he always had a tune in his heart. Ed had a wonderful sense of humor and would often create his own songs while driving. He was an avid fly fisherman, tying his own flies. He enjoyed square dancing, bowling, hunting, and camping. Ed served his country in the Army for over 27 years. He was a veteran of three wars: WWII, Korea, and Vietnam, and earned numerous citations including a Purple Heart and 2 Bronze Stars.He completed High School while on active duty in the U. S. Army and earned an Associates of Arts degree in Accounting from the College of Southern Idaho after he retired from the military.He married the love of his life, Erna, in 1946, while stationed in Germany. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Swiss Temple. Ed was active in the LDS church and worked alongside his wife in the Logan and Boise LDS Temples for 9 years. He will be missed by family and friends.Survivors include his wife, Erna, three sons, Ron (Merrilee), Keith (Karen), Mike, one daughter, Shirley (Rick), one sister, Gerri Alexander, 12 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, 7 sisters, and two grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, January 18 at the Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Street, with Bishop Tom Bates officiating. A viewing will be held from 11am- 12 pm. prior to the services. Military rites will be performed by the Pocatello Veterans Honor Guard and internment will be at Mountain View Cemetery. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Idaho State Veteran's Home staff. Their cheerfulness, love, and devotion to the veterans they serve is exceptional. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Idaho State Veteran's Home, 1957 Alvin Ricken Dr., Pocatello.Condolences may be made online to the family at www.colonial-funeralhome.com.
