Bonnie Lee Holderby Obituary
Nov 10, 1930 - Jul 06, 2017
Bonnie Lee HolderbyBonnie Lee Holderby died peacefully on July 6th, 2017, at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehab after several years of declining health. Her generous heart, intelligent mind and excellent sense of humor will be missed by family and friends alike. Bonnie was born on November 10, 1930 in Anthony, Kansas to Carl and Glenola Christensen. The family resided in Cherokee, Oklahoma throughout Bonnie's childhood, where her father farmed the land and operated a grain elevator. On December 20, 1947, Bonnie married Louis Holderby, and the couple soon moved to Norman, Oklahoma, where both attended the University of Oklahoma. Soon after Louis finished school in 1949, they moved to Argonia, Kansas to farm a parcel of land which was a graduation gift from his father. A few years later, Bonnie and Louis began a family and moved to Garden City, Kansas and then to Durant, Oklahoma where they owned and operated a car dealership, Holderby Ford. In 1965, Bonnie and Louis settled in Boulder, Colorado after having added four daughters and a son to the family mix. Bonnie's greatest source of joy was that of being a mother, providing endless opportunities for her children to explore their passions. She supported every activity in which they expressed interest, whether it be playing golf or tennis, skiing, writing poetry, singing, acting, playing guitar or riding horses. However, she was not a fan of trampolines and clearly drew the line there! In addition to her busy role as mother and homemaker, Bonnie (alongside Louis) was active in Boulder real estate, both as an agent and investor in rental properties. At the time of her death, she was owner of Holderby Properties in Boulder. Bonnie was a huge sports fan, avidly supporting the University of Colorado Golden Buffaloes football and basketball programs. She also loved cheering for her beloved Denver Broncos and Denver Nuggets over the many years. Bonnie loved to play bridge and was a member of the same bridge club for over thirty-five years. She was a patient teacher of the game as well, playing late into the night with her husband and various children on countless occasions. She was an excellent cook, capable of single-handedly pulling off spectacular feasts for family holidays. Bonnie's Thanksgiving and Christmas meals were legendary, and she continued to host these holidays for her ever-expanding family well into her eighties. Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Holderby, and grandson, Adam Marquard. She is survived by her brother, Bob (Ruby) of Wichita, Kansas; son, Ken Holderby of Niwot and daughters, Ginger Sible of Arvada; Lee Ann Marquard (Steve) of Ridgewood, New Jersey; Bonnie Sabatka of Boulder and Julie Patterson (Jamie) of Fort Collins. She is also survived by her fourteen grandchildren: Carl Simpson, Leslie Simpson, Kevin Simpson, Joe Holderby, Jon Holderby, Jae Holderby, Jordan Holderby, Jason Marquard, Courtney Marquard, Kendall Marquard, Sarah McMurray (Sean), Brooke Cartwright (Ian), Shannan Patterson and Eric Patterson (Celynda). Four great-grandchildren will carry on her legacy as well: Atalie Jones, Greyson Jones, Cameron Cartwright and Peyton Cartwright. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Lemay Avenue Health and Rehab for their unwavering commitment to Bonnie's health and well-being while she was in their care. A visitation is scheduled for Thursday, July 13, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 14 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception. All will take place at Allnutt Funeral Home in Fort Collins.
