Billy Zane Hyman Memphis, TNPassed away Sunday, December 11th, 2016. He was born on Trigg Street in Memphis, Tennessee on February 20th, 1926 to Purvis Hyman and Helen Searight Hyman. Billy was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Dorothy Hyman, and his wife, Pauline "Polly" Majors Hyman. He is survived by his dedicated caregiver, Allean Moore.After 12 years of living in Memphis, Billy moved to Mississippi. He graduated in 1944 from Southside High School. In 1948, he married the love of his life, Polly and they were happily married for 56 years until her death in June of 2004. Billy was a hard worker. His first job was working at A. Schwab on Beale Street. From there, he went to work for Jordan Lumber Company, which he later purchased. He was named Corporate President in 1959. In 1964, the name was changed to Hyman Builders Supply. Billy served on the very first City Council to Memphis and continued serving from 1968 to 1987.He was a faithful member, leader and financial supporter of Audubon Park Baptist Church for 62 years. He was a faithful friend of his pastor, Dr. Howard Kolb during the time of their rapid growth. He was a leader in all of their fund raising efforts and construction of church facilities. He served his country in WWII and was assigned to the Occupational Forces to assist Japan in their reconstruction efforts. Even though, he and Polly had no children, they were family oriented and helped countless young people in ministry, education and other endeavors. They made a huge difference in the lives of their "KIDS." A visitation will be held at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, on Wednesday, December 14th, 2016 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. with a service to follow.
