Billie Nance Earthman CHARLOTTE - Billie Nance Earthman, 88, formerly of Charlotte, passed away on November 7, 2016, in Williamsburg, Virginia. Cindy, her loving daughter and best friend was in attendance during her passing. Billie was preceded in death by her husband, William Lee Earthman and her sister, Charlotte Nance Jordan. Billie was born on December 31, 1927, in Elizabethton, Tennessee, to the late Mamie Parker Nance and Edward Avery Nance. At age 15, during World War II, she met "the love of her life" Bill Earthman. They were married on June 6, 1947, and enjoyed many happy years until Bill's death in 2006. Billie had such a beautiful and giving spirit and believed that her most important role was to care lovingly for her husband and daughter. Billie lived most of her married life on Wensley Drive in Charlotte where she created a wonderful home and where her azalea garden was a showplace every spring. Billie was active in Park Road Baptist Church, as a teacher of children's Sunday school & GA's, and as president of her Dorcas class. She made costumes and was an angel for many years in the Christmas Tableau. Billie was an excellent seamstress who created beautiful clothing for her daughter and herself. As a Girl Scout leader, she was brave enough to take 10, twelve-year-old scouts camping at Myrtle Beach. Billie was active in her garden and gourmet clubs. She loved entertaining and was a considerate hostess who created a celebratory spirit at any gathering and made every guest welcome and included. In her later life, Billie enjoyed living in Williamsburg with her daughter and loving her cat "Pepper". Billie is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Lee Earthman; brother, Edwin P. Nance; nephews, Kenneth Jordan, Edward Nance, James Earthman and William Earthman; four nieces, Amy Nance McKenna, Lorrie Nance Larsen, Kathy Stout Mooneyham and Carol Stout Carroll; brother-in-law, James C. Earthman; and sisters-in-law, Mayoma Earthman Stout and Nenette Cano Nance. The family remembers fondly Billie' s best friends in Charlotte for more than 50 years, Janice, Joyce and Leon Coulter; and Vonetta, Robert, Sheila, David and Nicolas Abraham. Also, much gratitude is extended to Billie's caregiver in Williamsburg, Jessica Parkerson, for her loving care. Without Jessica, Billie would not have enjoyed the freedom to remain safely in her home during her last years. Family and friends will gather in Charlotte in December to celebrate Billie's life and remember her accomplishments. Memorial contributions may be made to Park Road Baptist Church, 3900 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28209; The Charlotte Humane Society, 2700 Toomey Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28203 or to The Crossnore School, PO Box 249, Crossnore, NC 28616.
