Bill SmithWHITE COTTAGE: Bill Smith, 84, of White Cottage, passed away early Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at his home. He was born on January 13, 1930 in Zanesville a son of the late Pearl and Mary Smith. He retired from Grief Brothers in 1997 after 50 years of service. After retirement he worked for a number of years at Ford's Flowers. He was an amateur fastpitch softball pitcher for a number of years. He was a former member of the Zanesville Eagles. He was a former member of the White Cottage United Methodist Church where he was the Sunday School Superintendent for a number of years. He was a current member of the Duncan Falls United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Susie Smith of the home; three children, Marie (Randy) Hartmeyer, Brian (Heather) Smith and Tracey Bateson all of Zanesville; three grandchildren, Alex Smith, Kellie Hartmeyer and Melissa (Jason) Phillips of Australia; one great -granddaughter Kara Phillips; many nieces and nephews; one uncle, Charles(Lila) Kinney, one aunt, Rose Smith; his beloved dog Zoe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Louise Carsey and Bonnie Greiner; two brothers, Charlie Smith and Bobby Smith. Friends may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2014 at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home 5765 Gladstone Drive in White Cottage where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 31, 2014. Pastor Karen Osborn officiating. Burial will follow in Duncan Falls Cemetery.
