Betty J. DuncanResident of Battle Creek, MIBetty J. Duncan, age 94, of Battle Creek, MI and formerly of San Jose, CA, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016. She was born on November 20, 1921, the first baby born at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville, IL. Betty was the daughter of Lee J. and Eva Mae (Herche) McClelland and grew up in Mt. Sterling, IL.Betty married her high school sweetheart, Richard K. Duncan in Mt. Sterling, IL on December 24, 1940; he sadly preceded her in death in 1990. She was also preceded in death by her son, J. Scott Duncan in 1974; a son-in-law, Philip Holden; a brother, James L. McClelland; and three sisters, Lois (Michael) Carroll, Louise (Tom) Clark Norma (Bill) Hagan. Betty is survived by her daughter, Linda Holden; her grandson, Jeffrey D. (Denise) Holden; three great-grandchildren, Cole, Stephen & Aleah Holden; and several nieces & nephews.Betty was a loving mother & wife, and truly loved being with her family She lived in California for more than 65 years, including San Jose, Palo Alto, San Rafael, and lived in Michigan for the past 7 years. Betty was always active in her community and one to step in where she was needed. She loved to do crafts & miniatures, and instrumental in starting a club called "Mini Hours". Betty was also a member of the Marin General Hospital Guild, Eastern Star, and a Charter & very active member of the PEO – SR Chapter, where she served as President 3 times. At Betty's request, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 14, 2016 in the chapel at Mt.
