Bettie Jeanette (Stauter) O'Dell was born on November 11, 1932 in Grantsburg, WI to Frank and Eva Jeanette Stauter.  The Stauter family moved to Clarkston, MI in November 1935 where Bettie and her sister, Kathleen (Stauter) Orr grew up.  The Stauter family home on Main Street is on the National Historic Registry.  Bettie graduated from Clarkston High School and Cleary College and went to work at Baldwin Rubber Company in Pontiac, MI where she met the love of her life, Lawrence E. O'Dell.  They were married on September 11, 1952 in Clarkston Methodist Church, Clarkston, MI and went on to have four children - Robert Lane O'Dell, Karen Jeanette (O'Dell) Barthel, Lynne Marie O'Dell and Mary Sue (O'Dell) Cassidy.  In 1964 the family moved to Port Huron, MI where they lived until 1987.  Bettie was a wonderful and loving mother who always supported the endeavors of her children - hockey and softball; dance recitals and band recitals; Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts; and Brownies to Girl Scouts. Bettie tore up Pine Grove Avenue.  She was an active volunteer in polling booths on Election days and her work with the Port Huron Hospital Auxiliary.  Bettie worked for the Michigan Waterways Council of Girl Scouts from 1977 to 1987 as the Office Manager and Interim Executive Director. Before her retirement, Bettie earned the Gold Award, the highest achievement for women in Girl Scouting. Bettie and Larry purchased a home on Canada Creek Ranch in Atlanta, MI in 1987 where they enjoyed a happy, fulfilling retirement.  Bettie's service to the Ranch included the CCR Women's Auxiliary, Gift Shop Treasurer, and a member of the Welcome Committee. Bettie enjoyed traveling across the United States and Europe.  She was an avid hiker on the trails of CCR with her beloved dogs, enjoyed beach days with her grandchildren and snowmobile excursions with family and friends. Bettie was always thrilled to view the wildlife of Northern Michigan through her windows.  She loved God's Country. Bettie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clarkston, Pontiac, Port Huron and Onaway, Michigan.  Bettie is loved, admired and survived by her husband of 65 years, Lawrence E. O'Dell; her children Robert (Roxanne) O'Dell of Port Huron, MI, Karen Jeanette (David) Barthel of Gulfport, FL, Lynne O'Dell of Port Huron, MI and Mary (William) Cassidy of Port Huron, MI; six grandchildren Lindsay Jeanette (Willem) O'Dell of Washington DC, Darin O'Dell of Petoskey, MI, Alexander Barthel of Gulfport, FL, Joshua (Regina) Kemp of St. Petersburg, FL, Christopher (Kyri) Kemp of Saline, MI, and Alyson Kemp of Honolulu, HI; two great grandchildren Grayson Kemp and Baby Kemp who will announce himself or herself in December of this year; her sister Kathleen (Alfred) Orr of Casper, WY, nephew Julian (Eliana) Orr of Casper, WY, and great niece and nephew, Sophia and Octavio Orr of Casper, WY.  Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday August 19, 2017 with an instate time of 10 a.m. at Onaway United Methodist Church with a luncheon immediately following at the Canada Creek Ranch House.
