Elzina Beryl Beckstead Rasmussen, 87, of Grace, Idaho, was called home to her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2008, from the Caribou Memorial Living Center in Soda Springs, Idaho. Beryl was born on April 8, 1920, to Rosa Lucein Adams and Charles Francis Beckstead in Grace, Idaho. The eldest of eight children, Beryl learned the value of hard work early in life. Her younger years were spent in Pocatello, Idaho, where her father worked for Kraft Cheese. She began school there but moved back to Grace a few years later, where the family took up farming. They raised cows, pigs, chickens and geese, and had large gardents to feed their growing family. After graduation from eighth grade there, she moved back to Pocatello and attended junior high, living with an aunt and uncle, later returning once again to Grace to begin high school. She married Carl H. Rasmussen in the Logan, Utah, Temple and began married life with a "ready-made" family: Carl's son and daughter, Carl Jr. and Florence, from a previous marriage. They became the parents of four more children: Beverly, Maxine, Alan and Lynn. They had few luxuries in life, and lots of hard work, but nevertheless made a happy home for their children. Beryl served in many LDS Church callings during her life and especially enjoyed working in the Primary. She was an excellent cook and always had the "fixings" for a great meal to serve anyone who happened to drop by. Her huckleberry pies were known far and wide and were always the first to go at various family functions. She was also an avid gardener and had beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, which she willingly shared with family and friends. She loved having her children and grandchildren visit, and enjoyed going camping and fishing with her family. Beryl is survived by three sons: Carl Jr. (Ila Mae) Rasmussen, Alan (LuDene) Rasmussen and Lynn (Glenna) Rasmussen; two daughters: Florence (Howard) Johnson and Maxine (Larry) Hildreth; three sisters: Frances Frazier (Jim), Willard, Utah, Ila Mae Rasmussen (Carl Jr.), Grace, Idaho, and Jolene Bewby (Wayne), Pocatello, Idaho; and one brother, Lee Beckstead of Grace. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Beverly Rasmussen; a grandson, Bart Rasmussen; two sisters, Lona and Dorothy; and one brother, Alden Beckstead. Beryl leaves behind a posterity of 23 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at noon on Monday, Feb. 25, 2008, at the Thatcher-Williams LDS Chapel in Niter. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday at the chapel in Niter. Burial will be in the Grace cemetary. Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
