Bertha Elizabeth DavarnPewamoBeloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Bertha Elizabeth Davarn, age 90, passed away on November 22, 2016.Bertha was born on October 6, 1926, in Westphalia, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Schueller) Lenneman. She was raised on the family farm and completed her formal education in 1941 as an eighth grade graduate of St. Mary's Catholic School in Westphalia.Bertha married William "Bill" Davarn on September 23, 1947. They were united for more than 65 years until Bill died in 2012. From her marriage until the time of her death, Bertha was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo.Bertha spent most of her adult life as a homemaker and for more than 30 years as a waitress at restaurants in Lansing, most notably at Celentino's and at the
Elks Club. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, traveling, playing bridge and euchre.Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; son, Michael; five sisters; and five brothers. Surviving family members include their 8 children: Timothy (Laura) Davarn of Belmont; Patrick (Sharon) Davarn of St. Joseph; Roger (Barbara) Davarn of Pewamo; Barbara Davarn of Grand Ledge; Richard (Diane) Davarn of Pewamo; William (Carol) Davarn of Pewamo; Robert Davarn of Pewamo; and Keith Davern of Ionia; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Joseph (Julianne) Lenneman of rural Westphalia; sister-in-law Jean (James) Cook of Lansing; sister-in-law Rosemary Davarn of Pewamo; and many nieces and nephews.Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Saturday, November 26, and from 4-8 p.m., Sunday, November 27, at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 7 p.m. Saturday and at 7 p.m. Sunday. Arrangements are through the Lehman Funeral Homes in Portland (517-647-7995).The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo with Father Charlon O. Mason presiding. Rite of Committal will follow at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Pewamo. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Bertha Davarn to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.
