Antonio, Bernard "Bernie" PaulMay 11, 1941 - October 9, 2016Bernard "Bernie" Paul Antonio, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away suddenly at the age of 75 on October 9, 2016. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 53 years, Patricia Spano Antonio, his surviving sister, Myrna Antonio-Hall, and his 4 children and their respective spouses: Rene (Antonio) and Terence Hebda, Laura (Brinker) and Bernard Antonio, Amy (Mullig) and Craig Antonio and Sally (Gorisek) and Todd "Rico" Antonio, his 9 grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Terence and Jake Hebda, Nicholas and Joseph Antonio, Livia and Maria Antonio and Francesca and Carmella Antonio.Bernie was born on May 11, 1941 in Pittsburgh, PA to Pete and Wilma Antonio. He was a 1959 graduate of South Hills High School, married Patty Spano in 1963 and lived happily in Pittsburgh, PA for 48 years before residing to Sarasota, FL for the last 5 years.Bernie was known to most as "Coach". "Coaching is a profession of love, you can't coach people unless you love them." In his 50 years of coaching Bernie loved each and every one of his players and had a unique way of touching everyone he interacted with. Bernie coached many teams including Seton La Salle football, Bethel Park recreation football, St. Louise football and basketball, BBA baseball, and most recently Sarasota Sun Devil football.Bernie also enjoyed golf, fishing and, most of all, spending time with his family and grandchildren.Visitation will be at Toale Brothers Funeral Home, 6903 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL 34231 on Thursday, October 13 12:00 – 2:00 pm and 6:00 – 8:00 pm.A mass will take place at 9:30 am on Friday, October 14 at St. Martha's Catholic Church, 200 N. Orange Ave, Sarasota, FL 34236. A memorial service is being planned on Friday, December 9 at St. Louise de Marillac in Pittsburgh, PA.In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to The Sarasota Sun Devils, PO Box 18388, Sarasota, FL 34276 c/o Jim Liddy.
