Bennie Ortega, 79, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at his home.He was born on Nov. 30, 1933 in Chaperito, to the late Benedito Ortega and Delfina Gallegos Ortega.He served in the United States Army from Aug. 1, 1955 to Aug. 1957 and received a Good Conduct Medal. He was united in marriage on June 16, 1969 in Las Vegas, to Flora Roybal Ortega. He worked at El Rialto as a bartender for 30 years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, also a friend to many and loved by all. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.A Catholic, and a member of our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Flora Ortega; brothers, Enrique Hank and Anastacio Duran, Onofre, Lorenzo and Eloy Ortega; and sister, Minnie Duran. He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Ortega (Rick), Francine Ortega and fiancé Joseph Cruz all of Las Vegas; grandchildren, Bailey Douglass, Amanda, Alyssa, and Aaron Garcia; brother, Orlando Ortega (Viola) of Las Vegas; brothers-in-law, Ernest Roybal (Betsy) all of Las Vegas, Eloy Roybal (Eva) of Denver, Colo., Frank Frausto of Las Animas, Colo., and Fred Aragon of Nevada; sister-in-law, Hazel Gutierrez of Las Vegas; special nephews: Casey Ortega, Chuck and Daniel Roybal; numerous other nieces, nephews , other relatives and many friends.Rosary devotional services were held at 7 p.m. Sunday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, with the funeral Mass to be held at 9 a.m. today (Monday) with Father Anthony Akabogu as celebrant. Serving as casket bearers will be: Casey Ortega, Raul Ortega, Jerry Ortega, Gilbert Ortega, Eloy Ortega, Joseph Ortega, Joe Ortega and Roy Roybal.
