ADAMS, Barnard Steeple Barnard Steeple Adams passed away peacefully at his home in Santa Rosa on November 4, 2016. He was born on April 21, 1917 at 4721 64th Ave., Brooklyn, NY, weighing 10 lbs, 8 ounces, the first of six children to Mildred Davis and Alonzo Milliken Adams. He grew up on Staten Island, attending P.S. 41 and Curtis High School. He loved his years as a Boy Scout, becoming an Eagle Scout with two palms. He graduated from NYU in 1939 with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering, with a major in Meteorology. He joined Pan American Airlines in Dundalk, Maryland the week that PAA made its maiden flight over the Atlantic to London, England. Pan Am assigned him to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1940 where he served until the United States entered World War II. In January of 1942 he was then transferred to the Amazon City of Belem, to set up the meteorological base for the joint operation of PAA and the U.S. Air Force. In July of 1942 he and other PAA personnel were classified C-2 and attached to the U.S. Air Force operation at the joint U.S. and Brazilian Air Base. Here U.S. Air Force shuttled war planes to Africa. After the European World War II ended, he became a Flight Dispatcher for PAA and served in the Central area from New Orleans to Panama. He married Muriel Papendick on December 20, 1944 and was assigned to Guatemala where he served until he resigned in November 1949. Daughter Christine was born in Miami in 1945, now living in Novato, CA; daughter Dian was born in Guatemala in 1947, now deceased; son Mark was born in Oakland, CA, now deceased. They joined their parents' move to California and settled in San Leandro in November 1949. Both he and his dad entered the real estate business with C Gordon Realty; formed their own business, Adams & Adams in Castro Valley in 1952. Barnard was privileged to serve as President of the Southern Alameda Board of Realtors in 1959; and President of the California Association of Realtors in 1971. He has served as president of the Castro Valley Lions Club and was a member of the Montgomery Village LIONS in Santa Rosa, CA; where he was privileged to aid in the Lions development of the Earle Baum Center of the Blind. He is survived by daughter Christine Marquis, of Novato; by grandson Timothy (Suzy) White and great-grandchildren Tom and Julia; by granddaughter Angela (John) Harrell and step-son Asher; by granddaughter Aimée Lontz and great-grandson, Jake; by grandson Kristopher (Gabriela) Kuivenhoven, by grandson Tyler (Jen) Ulrich and great-granddaughter Hanali; by granddaughter Karrie (Christopher) Tackett. Wife Muriel died of cancer on December 30, 1971 in Walnut Creek, CA. Barnard was married to Kitty Bloch and later divorced. He is survived by Kitty Rue, step-daughter Tracie Lemp and grandson Tony Bloch. Barnard was married to Lorna Newton on December 31, 1992 until her death on March 1, 2013. He is survived by stepdaughter Patricia Newton and step-grandson Daniel (Eleanor); by step daughter Penny Tibbetts and step-grandson Jack Tibbetts; by step daughter Phyllis (Michael Carpenter) Newton, Step daughter Lauren and step-granddaughter Paige; by step daughter Paula (Peter) Molgaard and step granddaughter Monica and step grandson Michael. Barnard was married to Diane Paxton on January 18, 2014 and is survived by her family of daughter Laura Cherry, grandson Jack and granddaughter Clare; by daughter Lynne (Mike) Neri; by grandsons William and Blake Hatheway; by daughter Anne Cherry. A memorial Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at Star of the Valley Catholic Church, 545 White Oak Dr., Santa Rosa. Barnard requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Earle Baum Center of the Blind at 4539 Occidental Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95401
