Barbara A. WilhelmHANOVERBarbara Ann (Ball) Wilhelm, 81, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015, at Hanover Hall.Barbara was born on August 21, 1934, in Detroit, Mich., to the late Edward Graham Ball, Jr. and Beatrice Eaton (Garrison) Ball.She was a graduate of Southwestern High School and Wayne State University, both of Detroit, Mich., and attended courses at Santa Monica City College, Santa Monica, Calif. Barbara was employed as a medical transcriptionist at Henry Ford Hospital, Detroit, Mich., UCLA, Los Angeles, Calif., and St. Joseph and St. Jude Hospitals, both of Anaheim, Calif. In 1996, she retired to Pennsylvania, first residing in Glen Rock, York, Shrewsbury, and finally in Hanover.She is survived by her children, Calvin Wilhelm of Grants Pass, Ore., and Janice Wilhelm and husband, Mark Herr of Seven Valleys; three grandchildren, Kailin Johnson and husband, Jonathan Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., and Landis Herr and Anna Herr, both of Seven Valleys; one great-granddaughter, Kassidy Johnson of Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, John Ball of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by two sisters, Flora (Ball) Owens and JoAnn (Ball) Hilliker; and three brothers: Edward Graham Ball, III, Ronald Ball, and Charles Ball. Barbara was an award winning artist who crafted dolls, animals, wreaths, clothing, ornaments, and other three dimensional items. Her work was published in papers in Michigan, California, and Pennsylvania. She was a member of the Doll Makers Club of Orange County, Calif. For over 15 years, she was very extensively involved with the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts of Los Angeles. She was a church school teacher, choir mother, and crafter at All Saints Episcopal Church in Beverly Hills, Calif., and St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Westwood, Calif. In York she volunteered with the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs for a number of years. She freely gave her time and skills to organizations wherever she lived, working with children and the elderly. Her life was filled with whimsy, humor, and joy. She was never happier than when spending time with family and friends or working on a new project.
