BARBARA SMITHDEAL BARNETTE ASHEBORO, NC - Barbara Smithdeal Barnette devoted wife, mother of three daughters, and loving grandmother passed away on December 14, 2016 following a short illness. Barbara was born on July 19, 1934 in Mooresville, N.C. She was the daughter of Charles and Rachael Smithdeal. She attended Wingate University. Following college she worked as an accounting clerk with Southern Bell in Charlotte, N.C. then in Columbia, S.C. while her husband was in the Army and attending the University of South Carolina and then again in Greensboro, N.C. during her husband's employment there. Barbara was a charter member of Pinewood Country Club and enjoyed playing golf with friends and couples. Playing Bridge was her passion and she was a member of several Bridge clubs. She was also a member of the local Garden Club and was a member of the Christian Love Sunday School Class of First United Methodist Church for 51 years. Volunteering was important to Barbara and she worked with Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Rachael Smithdeal and her sister Aileen Waugh. She is survived by husband of 61 years, M. Pressley Barnette of Asheboro, N.C.; daughters Cynthia Allen and husband Randy of Asheboro, N.C., Alice Diab of Wilmington, N.C., Patricia Asbill of Asheboro, N.C.; Grandchildren Amanda Dennison and husband Nate of Silver Spring, MD, Jessica Crisp and husband Brett of Greensboro, N.C., Jacob Diab of Wilmington, N.C., Lindsay Diab of Wilmington, N.C., Adam Glass and wife Kyhli of Gibsonville, N.C., Brandon Glass of Asheboro, N.C.; Great-grandchildren Finley Dennison, Elise Dennison, Isaac Crisp and Jamison Glass; and brother Charles Richard Smithdeal and wife Cynthia of Chesterfield, VA. Visitation will be on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at First United Methodist Church from 12:30 pm-1:45 pm. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Lynda Ferguson officiating. A private burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Randolph County, P.O.
