OLNEY Barbara (nee Chesis), died at her home on November 11, 2016 in Dataw Island, South Carolina, following a year-long battle with cancer. She was 69. Barbara was born on July 13, 1947 in North Bergen, NJ to her parents, Audrey and Lawrence Chesis. She graduated from North Bergen High School in 1965 and from Lesley College in 1969. She married Larry Olney in 1972. The Olneys settled in Newburyport, MA, where they raised their two children, Eric and Matthew, and where Barbara taught elementary school. Barbara and Larry retired to Dataw Island in 2005. Thereafter, Barbara traveled the country, consulting schools on their curriculum for McGraw Hill, and she traveled the world with Larry. She also spent time honing her golf, tap dancing, wine tasting, knitting and poker skills, and playing with her beloved grandchildren, Ned, Henry and Colette. Barbara is survived by her husband Larry; her son and daughter-in-law Matt and Katie Olney of Worcester, MA; her son and daughter-in-law Eric Olney and Emily Feinstein of Riverdale, NY; her mother Audrey Chesis; her sisters Robyn Lowenthal and Linda Chesis; and her three grandchildren. Barbara will be buried in a public ceremony on November 14, 2016 at 11 AM, at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 685 Fairview Ave, Fairview, NJ. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Barbara's life.
