Winkler, Barbara AnnBarbara Ann Winkler, 84, Green Bay, passed away Monday, September 11, 2017. She was born on April 28, 1933, in St. Louis, MO to Walter Louis and Mildred Grace (Brewer) Boeger.In 1955, Barbara graduated from Washington University in St. Louis where she had played softball and field hockey and participated in synchronized swimming for four years.On May 28, 1955, she married Robert Winkler in St. Louis. Mrs. Winkler taught school for one semester but because of Bob's service in the military they moved to El Paso, TX. They moved to Alexandria, VA and back to St. Louis before moving to Green Bay in 1962. Barbara had a 24-year career at Southwest High School. For her first four years she worked as a classroom aide. She later worked as the Guidance Department secretary.Mrs. Winkler was a very active volunteer. She was a Girl Scout leader for several years, and volunteered countless hours at St. Agnes School. She was a very active member of St. Agnes Parish where she served for many years as an usher. Barbara also worked for many years for the St. Patrick Food Pantry. Mrs. Winkler coached softball and volleyball. She enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing, bowling, swimming, softball, volleyball, and golf.Barbara's family includes her husband, Robert Winkler; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Suzanne Winkler, Sugar Land, TX; a daughter, Catherine (Will Wagoner) Winkler, Oriental, NC; two grandchildren: Kyle Winkler and his wife, Stephanie; and Kellsie Winkler; a great-granddaughter, Kole Winkler (daughter of Kyle and Stephanie); a niece, Debbie Steinmetz; and a nephew, Keith Lueck. Her family also includes her brother-in-law and his wife, Ken and Nancy Winkler; and her sister-in-law, Joann Zambo.Preceding Mrs. Winkler in death was a brother, Baird Boeger; a sister, Brenda Lueck; and brother-in-law, Bob Zambo (the late husband of Joann Zambo).Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, September 15. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday. Visitation will continue at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1484 Ninth St. from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. with Rev. Patrick C. Beno officiating.
