Betty Jeanette Buchanan Swinney Betty Jeanette Buchanan Swinney passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2016, in Roswell, NM. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 85 years on Tuesday, November 22, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Betty was born on July 10, 1931, to the late Harold and Mattie (Price) Buchanan in Merkel, Texas. On June 14, 1950, she married Billy Swinney in Merkel. She moved to Buffalo Springs Lake in 1978, and worked for Texas Tech University for 18 years as an accountant. Betty was a member of the Buffalo Springs Lake Community Church; the Buffalo Springs Lake Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) and for 20 years was a First Responder. She served on the Buffalo Village Council for 2 years and in 1983, she was awarded the Woman of the Year (BSLAIA). Betty spent time making quilts for her family, along with all kinds of other needlework. She also enjoyed making jewelry and dolls. Betty and Bill moved to Roswell two years ago to live with their son, Billy. Betty is survived by her loving spouse, Billy Joe Swinney; daughter Lynne Brown and husband Wendell of Rockwall, TX, son, Bobby Swinney and wife Pam of Roswell, NM; four grandchildren, Tanya Brown and partner Maryann Zimmerman, Aimee Walton and husband Billy, Kennon Swinney and wife Natalie, Jon Sykes and wife Melinda; nine great-grandchildren, Aalyiha Walton, Rai-Ven Walton, Mikayla Walton, Wyatt Swinney, Bailey Swinney, Heath (Dub) Swinney, Jahari Kennedy, Jaryn Vanover, Jalen Sykes; great-great-grandaughter, Isley Kennedy; and a sister, Maxine Barrios. Memorials are suggested to the Buffalo Springs Lake Volunteer Fire Department, 99C Pony Express Trail, Lubbock, Texas 79404.
