With heavy hearts we the family announce the death of our beloved wife, mother and Nonna, Assunta (Lento) Bisignano, resident of Thunder Bay. Assunta, age 75, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 16th, 2016 surrounded by her family at St. Joseph's hospital. Assunta was born on December 4, 1941 in Luzzi, Cosenza, Italy, the youngest child to Saverio and Aurelia Lento. Assunta emigrated to Canada in 1962, where she met her soul mate, Franceso Bisignano, sharing 54 years together. Assunta had a strong faith, and was a long time active member of St. Dominic church and a member of Principe Di Piemonte Ladies Auxiliary. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She enjoyed every moment of watching her grandchildren grow up, cheering them on at every sporting event. She loved her lengthly walks around Northwood, where she was always recognized. Assunta loved company, her home and garage was a gathering place for many family members. The highlight of her week was preparing Sunday dinner for her family. Assunta and Frank enjoyed their annual trip to Cuba, just last year they were able to share their love of the beach, with their children and grandchildren. Survived by her loving husband, Francesco Bisignano, children Maria (Bill) Kovac, Rosie (Paul) Makela, Dino (Carolyn) Bisignano, her precious grandchildren Chris and Lisa Kovac (Randy), Olivia and Joshua Bisignano and Erik and Andrew Makela, brother Mariano Lento, in-laws; Francesco and Assunta in Italy, Silvio (Carolina), Mario (Anna), Elio (Franca), Ida (Michele), Rita (Guido), Elvira Bisignano and numerous nieces and nephews, near and far. Assunta was predeceased by her parents Aurelia and Saverio Lento, in-laws Guiseppe and Concetta Bisignano and sisters; Ida Bisignano, Adelina and Erminia Lento, brothers; Nicola, Camillo and Francesco Lento, brother-in-laws; Salvatore, Emilio, Guerino Bisignano, and Antonio Brogno. Sister in-laws; Emilia Ruffolo, Gerarda Bisignano, and Carmela Lento. Nephews; Saverio Lento, Sergio, and Joe Bisignano. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, when family and friends will gather for Funeral Mass at 10:00am, at St. Dominic's Church celebrated by Rev. Maurizio Maifredi c.s. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will commence at 7:30pm Monday, December 19 in St. Dominic's Church, with prayers offered at 8:00pm. If friends desire, memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Assunta Bisignano will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove.
