Arthur Dodds Johnson, Sr.Malesus, TNA celebration of life service for Arthur Dodds Johnson, Sr., will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Malesus Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Malesus Ebenezer Cemetery in Malesus, TN. He passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Bells Nursing Home in Bells, TN.Arthur Dodds Johnson, Sr., 102, was born on October 4, 1914 in Malesus, TN to the late Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Allen Johnson. He lived in Malesus at his home place until he was 99. After graduating from Malesus High School, he continued to farm on his family land which had been in his family for 7 generations.Arthur Sr. was active in several areas of the community. He was elected mayor of Malesus during the late 1950's and early 1960's. He was also an ASCS Community Committeeman for many years during the 50's and 60's, as well as ASCS County Committeeman in the 1970's. He was a Lifetime Director for Farm Bureau. For more than 50 years, he served on the Malesus Ebenezer Cemetery Board of Trustees. As past president of his men's Sunday School Class, he was actively involved as a member of Malesus Baptist Church for more than 60 years. He enjoyed working in the garden, regularly visiting family and friends in the community and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.He was married to the late Ruth Lowrance Johnson for more than 70 years until her death in 2007. He was the youngest of five children. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rowena Bible, Lucy Sink, Bernard Hudson,and Irene Collins. He leaves his two children: son, Arthur D. Johnson, Jr. and wife Sarah of Malesus, and daughter, Elizabeth Anne Bailey and husband Wilbur of Malesus; four grandchildren, Mitzi Kirk and husband Larry of Malesus, Arthur D. Johnson III "Chip" and wife Christy of Medon, Mike Bailey of Medon, and Jill Johnson of Malesus; and three great grandchildren, Drew Johnson, Connor Kirk, and Bailey Kirk; one niece, Mary Stephen Hudson Shock and husband John of Poplar Bluff, MO; three nephews, Joe Hudson and wife Betty of Malesus, Greer Collins of Memphis, and Lamar Collins and wife Delmar of Brownsville, TN.Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24, 2017 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. prior to the service at Malesus Baptist Church.The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to Malesus Baptist Church, 480 Old Malesus Rd., Jackson, TN 38301 or The Gideons International, P.O.
