VanNunen, Jr., ArnoldArnold VanNunen, Jr., passed away at home on Saturday, May 20, 2017 Armed Forces Day surrounded by his family. He was born on August 25, 1924 to Arnold and Florence (Jacques) VanNunen Sr., in Muskegon Heights. Arnold was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he took part in men's group and served on the maintenance board. He served his country in the Navy during WWII on a minesweeper ship taking care of the engines. He then went on to become a police officer and later a detective. Arnold retired with the Appleton Police Department after serving 23 years and prior to that worked with the Muskegon Police Department. He was a member of the Eagles, Fraternal Order of Police and received the 1978 Appleton Policeman of the Year award. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling in his spare time. On November 27, 1987, he married Rita Brugnani and she survives him along with his 3 children; daughters, Paula Duncan and Diane Fochtman; son, Arnold (Liza) VanNunen III; step-children, Patricia (Wayne) Cattanach, Barbara (Joseph Guilmette) Brugnani and Laura (Richard) Cross; 4 grandchildren, Alysia, Vince, Shelley, Joshua; 4 step-grandchildren, Lea, Olivia, Alexandra and Colleen; 2 great-grandchildren, Maigen and Logan and 3 step-great-grandchildren, Isabella, Adelina and Leo. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents; son, Mark VanNunen; daughter, Linda Priami; and step-son, John Willey, Jr. A FUNERAL SERVICE will take place 1:00 PM Friday, May 26, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church (3225 Roosevelt Rd.) with Pastor Paul Appold officiating. VISITATION with the family will be at church one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS can be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at Norton Cemetery.
