Sillars, ArleneArlene J. Sillars, age 90, of Wausau, died on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Wellington Place in Wausau.Arlene was born on January 11, 1926 in Wausau to the late Joseph and Alvina (Wendorf) Wetterneck. She attended Long Fellow Junior High and Wausau East High School. Arlene married the love of her life, George Sillars, on April 18, 1944 at St. Paul's UCC when he was home on furlow from the Army. They were married for 56 wonderful years before he passed away on September 2, 2000. She was employed at Marathon Rubber for 27 ½ years before her retirement. She lived in Wausau for 22 years before moving to Rib Mountain, where she called home for the past 68 years.Arlene enjoyed knitting, jigsaw puzzles, flower gardening, golfing with her husband and friends, and baking pies for her son. She was an avid bowler and was active in 3 different leagues. She also enjoyed gambling and took 12 trips to Las Vegas with George and their friends. More than anything she loved her family and spending time with them at the cottage on Long Lake. She was especially appreciative of all the kind things her family did for her, even her 4 little great grandchildren. As well as being a member of the American Legion Auxillary, Arlene was also a long time member of St. Paul's UCC and was active in the Mother's Club for many years. Arlene is survived by her son Daniel (Beth) Sillars; grandsons Cory (Kelly) Sillars and Clint Sillars; step grandsons Josh Drees, Justin (Karin) Drees, and Nelson Drees; great grandchildren Carson, Kateland, and Ethan Sillars and Klas Drees; sister-in-law Lois Wetterneck; and many nieces and nephews including special nieces Phyllis Koltz and Gerry Klapperich.Arlene is preceded in death by her husband George Sillars, parents Joseph and Alvina Wetterneck, and brother Morris Wetterneck.Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 426 Washington St., Wausau. The Rev. Phil Schneider will officiate. Visitation will take place from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the church on Wednsesday. Burial will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park at a later date. Brainard Funeral Home, Wausau is assisting the family with arrangements.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Paul's United Church of Christ, 426 Washington St., Wausau, WI 54403; or Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services, 333 Pine Ridge Blvd., Wausau, WI 54401.Special thank you for the love and care given by "The Girls" at Wellington Place.
