Anna CôtéAnna Côté passed away peacefully on Friday, May 12, 2017 at the age of 91. Anna was born on a farm near Elstow, Saskatchewan on May 14, 1925 to Michael and Dora Eljoke. She was the oldest daughter of 6 siblings. Anna attended school in Elstow, Meadow Lake and Bradwell. Anna hoped to become a nurse but due to the depression and World War II there was no money to pursue her dream. Instead, Anna worked at City Hospital, then she travelled to Fort San Tuberculosis Centre with her sister, Laura, and trained as a nurse's aide. After this, Anna went with a friend to Halifax and took office training and worked at Simpsons. Anna came back to Saskatchewan after 3 years and worked at Canadian Bakeries in the office. It was during this time that Anna met her beloved Lawrence and the two were married in 1962. Lawrence traveled with his job at Canadian Bakeries, while Anna stayed home and raised their 3 sons: Bruce, Murray and Robert. Anna and Lawrence loved to garden and waited eagerly for each spring so they could start a new growing season. Anna did a lot of canning and was always very generous with the annual garden bounty. Anna and Lawrence always welcomed people into their home and enjoyed entertaining their family and friends, especially the McPhersons, Anna's sister Laura's family, who held a special place in her heart. After Lawrence retired, they built a new home in 2001 where they continued to garden and travel across Canada and the United States. In 2012, Lawrence passed away. Anna continued to live in their home until April 2017. Anna was very proud of her sons and their accomplishments. She was a doting grandma who loved her grandchildren and cherished the time she spent with them. Anna was predeceased by her parents: Michael and Dora Eljoke, her brothers: Alexander (Elsie) Eljoke, John (Cecile) Eljoke and sisters: Alice (Vic) Kachur, Laura (Don) McPherson, and Ida (Jack) Marshall. Anna is survived by her sons: Bruce Côté, Murray (Tiffany) Côté, Robert (Bonnie) Côté, grandchildren: Mirissa, Dawson, and Natalie, sister-in-law: Noella Sayer and many nieces and nephews. Her family is particularly grateful to all the care givers who helped look after Anna, especially to Deana, who cared for Anna like family and to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul's Hospital. The Funeral Service will be held at Park Funeral Home, 311 Third Avenue North, on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
