Alvin Carnes Obituary

Oct 19, 1930 - Nov 18, 2014

This obituary is administered by:
Alvin Leroy CarnesOctober 19, 1930 - November 18, 2014Alvin Leroy Carnes 84 Our Dad was born on October 19, 1930 in Oklahoma to Arnold and Virgie Carnes. His family moved to Delano California in 1934 where he spent the next 14 years. At age 7 he was struck with polio, but recovered through procedures developed by Sister Kenney of Australia. This made a lasting and lifelong impression which later led him to becoming a 32nd degree Mason and Shriner, contributing to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospital throughout his lifetime.  Dad worked at the Safeway grocery store while attending Delano High School. After graduating in 1948, he attended Reedley Junior College while working at his sister's grocery store in the nearby small town of Centerville California. The bus stop was located at the front door of the store, and it was there that Barbara Deaver first caught his eye as she got off the bus. Their courtship was interrupted by Dad being drafted into the Army, where he was sent to Greenland during the Korean War. They were married January 11, 1952. After the war, Dad went to work for PG&E in Fresno and their son, Stephen was born in 1954. After transferring to Bakersfield in 1956, their daughter, Sherri was born in 1957.  During the 70's, he started doing taxes as a side business and continued doing them for the next 24 years. Dad worked with PG&E until he retired in 1986.  After retiring, Dad & Mom moved to Visalia California in order to be closer to their 4 grandsons, Stephen (Martina) & Bryan Carnes and Geoffrey & Gerad House.  During retirement, they traveled extensively, and ended up buying a cabin and summered in Donnelly, Idaho. In the early 90's they moved permanently to Idaho, settling in Nampa.  Sherri & her husband Ken House and their  boys soon followed. Many summers were enjoyed by all the family in Donnelly, eventually being joined by step grandchildren and two great grandchildren; Ephram Geoffrey & Keira Carnes. Dad passed away on November 18th, 2014.   As has been promised to all, Dad has joined his family and friends, including his late grandson, Geoffrey Ryan House, who was tragically taken from us in 2003.  At Dad's request there will be no services, but would like to have any donations made to the Shriner's Children's Hospitals.
