Alfonso "Poncho" Martinez was born on Nov. 19, 1938, passed away on Friday, March 22 at his home in Farmington.He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernesto P. Martinez and Adelmira Montoya Martinez He is also preceded in death by his wife, Ester C. Martinez. Alfonso attended both Robertson and West Las Vegas High Schools. He graduated from West Las Vegas in 1958. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He married his wife Ester 1959. Alfonso worked and retired from New Mexico State Government, where he worked at the fairgrounds in Albuquerque. "Poncho" leaves behind three sons and one daughter, Robert, Michael, and Steven Martinez and wife Rebecca all of Santa Fe; Marie Martinez and husband Gene of Farmington.Surviving grandchildren are: Melissa, Andrew, Julia, Sally, Katrina, Deanna, Phillip and wife Dahlia, Miranda, and Jon-Eric. And six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters and brother, Louise Daricek of California, Dolores Valdez of Phoenix, Judy Ortiz and husband Don of Raton, and Ernest Martinez and wife Gloria Martinez of Las Vegas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Brewer, Lee and Larkin Mortuary in Farmington on Monday. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Farmington.
