Albert (Jeff) Martz, 69, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Nov. 25, 2016, at Penn Highlands Brookville Hospital. Mr. Martz was born on Jan. 9, 1947, in McKeesport, a son of the late Albert E. Martz and Mary J. (Moser) Martz, who survives.On Oct. 20, 1973, he married Joyce (Brennan) Martz of Punxsutawney, who survives.Mr. Martz graduated from the Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, Pa., and completed his undergraduate college studies at Kentucky Wesleyan. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army Reserves, having served eight years. In 1971, he was hired as an eighth-grade art teacher at the Punxsutawney Area Junior High School. After completing his master's degree in education and earning his principal certification in 1991, he was hired as assistant principal of the Marion Center Area High School. A year later, he was appointed to the position of principal of the high school, where he served until his retirement in 2002.Mr. Martz was a member of the John W. Jenks 534 Masonic Lodge and the First United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Punxsutawney Lions Club, and he served on the Punxsutawney Area Hospital Board of Directors and the Punxsutawney Area School Board.Special interests Mr. Martz enjoyed were raising Black Angus cows and faithfully supporting the Pittsburgh Pirates. He especially treasured time surrounded by his family and his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Joyce, surviving relatives include his mother, Mary J. Martz of Punxsutawney; a son, Douglas J. Martz and wife Jody of Punxsutawney; a daughter, Diana (Martz) Wheeler and husband Jim of Mars, Pa.; a brother, Gregory Martz and wife Cindy of Bethel Park; a sister, Deborah (Martz) Tuite and husband Chris of England; and five grandchildren, Preston, Landon and Braxton Martz of Punxsutawney and Evan and Emma Wheeler of Mars.Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at the Deeley Funeral Home, Punxsutawney.A funeral service will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, Nov. 28, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church of Punxsutawney, with Pastor Paul Ritchey officiating.Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, Punxsutawney.
