Akmal Muwallif Muhammad, 70, returned to Allah on August 18, 2020 in Silver Spring, MD. He grew up in Youngstown, OH and graduated from South High School in 1969. He completed the 4 year Apprenticeship at Caterpillar Tractor Co in Peoria, IL and retired from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transportation Authority where he retired as a Master Mechanic for Electrical and Mechanical Services.
Bro. Muhammad dedicated his life to Islam in various roles within his community. He was the Co-Founder/Chairman/CEO of the Islamic Freedom Foundation, Inc. (TIFF). He lead the instruction of the Seerah of the Prophet Muhammad and served as an Islamic prison chaplain to the Arlington County Jail, the Alexandria City Jail, and the Montgomery County Jail. He also served as an Associate Chaplain for the Washington D.C. Department of Corrections. He co-authored the book "Achieving Jannah (Paradise)" and participated in various interfaith events within the Washington DC area.
Bro. Muhammad was preceded in death by his parents Sidki Muwallif Sr. and Selmeyyah Muwallif, his sister Nora Ann Howell and brother Yaseen Muwallif. He is succeeded in death by his children, daughter Jamillah Wilkes of McKinney, TX, daughter Akilah Wooten (Delvin) of McKinney, TX and son Rasheed Muwallif (Nicole) of Indianapolis, IN, his twin brother Ali Muhammad (Kathi) of Clinton, MD, brother Sidki Muwallif of Columbia, brother Omar Muwallif of Baltimore, MD, sister Shahara Wilson of North Carolina and 10 grand children, 1 great grand child and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Funeral service was held at the Islamic Society of Washington, and he was laid to rest at Al-Firdaus Memorial Gardens in Frederick, MD.
