Afton Stoddard ButtarsJuly 30, 1923 - March 10, 2016Afton Rada Stoddard Buttars, 92, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2016, at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, Utah. She was born on July 30, 1923, in Richmond, Utah, to Irwin and Evelyn Thompson Stoddard. She attended Park School and North Cache High School in Richmond and then continued her education at Utah Agriculture College (USU). Music was a large part of her schooling in choral, orchestra and band where she played the Trumpet and then the French Horn. She entered the work force as a secretary for Lohman/Thompson Insurance Agency in Salt Lake. While there she was a member of the Exchange Club All Girl Orchestra where they participated in programs for the military bases and other club programs in the area. After returning to Cache Valley she was employed by Sego Milk Products Company as a receptionist and in charge of sales. She married Guy Layne Buttars on July 10, 1947, in the Logan LDS Temple. They lived in Lewiston, Saline, then Richmond for 35 years, in St George for 13 years, and then back to Smithfield in October 2000. They were blessed with nine children Sheila Albrect, Robert Guy, Warren S. (deceased), Steven I. (Sally deceased) Christy Miller, Larry M. Blake L.(Sharon), Maren Seamons (Boyd deceased) Joanne Petersen (Ray Jessop deceased). After her children were older, she returned to the workforce working summers at Del Monte in Smithfield and the school lunch program at North Cache, and later at Pet Milk Co in Richmond where she remained through the different ownerships Hi Land Dairy, Western General Dairies Inc. and Western Dairymen Cooperative Inc. as Office Manager until the closing of the plant. She then worked for the Cache County Chapter of the American Red Cross as an Executive Secretary until retirement. After retirement she and Guy enjoyed traveling on tours and visiting family and historical areas across the United States.Afton was a member of the Richmond Ladies Chorus for over 25 years. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as a teacher, secretary of Sunday School, Mutual Improvement Assn, and chorister for Primary and Relief Society. She is survived by four sons and four daughters, 28 grandchildren, and 36 great grandchildren and by extended family Bill Stalzer, George Sirotnak, Maria and Gary Egbert and their children Samantha, Josh, Jace, and Courtney and a sister-in-law IraLue Stoddard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Guy, a son Warren S. Buttars, sons-in-law Boy Seamons and Ray Jessop, daughter-in-law Sally Buttars, brothers Irwin T. William Mack, and Dan W. Stoddard, a sister Beth Skidmore, and sisters-in-law Della and Darlene Stoddard. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at the LDS Chapel located at 450 South 250 East in Smithfield, Utah. A viewing will be held Monday from 6-8 p.m. at the church and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. also at the church. Interment will be in the Richmond Utah Cemetery.
