Adelaida Ortiz Vigil, a lifetime resident of Villanueva, passed away Jan. 31, 2016, at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her husband, Crisostomo Vigil; her son, H. Felix Vigil; her daughters, Marie Vigil, Rosaleen Trujillo, and Josephine Gallegos; her parents, Luis and Melecia Ortiz; her mother and father-in-law, Ramon and Josefina Vigil; four sisters, Emelinda Gonzales, Norma Pena, Irene Salinas, and Deluvena Gonzales; and by two brothers, Luis Ortiz, Jr and Miguel Ortiz.She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Carmen Romero of Clovis; three sons. George Vigil and wife, Katherine, of Los Alamos, Steve Vigil and wife, Rosann, of Denver, and Leroy Vigil of Mexia, Texas; two daughters, Palmyra Gallegos and husband, Delfido, of La Fragua, and Annabelle Encinias and husband, Larry, of Villanueva; a daughter-in-law, Toni Vigil; 17 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandaughter. Mrs. Vigil raised two of her grandchildren, Joyce Chavez and husband, Mike, of Peralta, and Christina Vigil of Albuquerque.Mrs. Vigil was born on Jan. 8, 1918 in Villanueva to Luis and Melecia Ortiz. She married Crisostomo Vigil of El Cerrito on July 29, 1939, and had nine children. With only an eighth grade education, Mrs. Vigil established and operated all aspects of a successful commercial business and was an influential community leader. She was also a very active member of the Villanueva Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, serving for many years as both a Catholic Christian Education teacher and a member of the church choir. She will be lovingly remembered as a dedicated daughter, sister, wife, and mother.Services will be held on Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Villanueva beginning with a visitation at 9 a.m. and a rosary at 10 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Father Ronald Stone will celebrate the mass.
