Abraham Lincoln Toigo1927 - 2014Abraham Lincoln Toigo, 87, died peacefully in his home on May 16, 2014.He was born on Feb. 7, 1927, to Italian immigrants, Francesco and Celeste (Furlin) Toigo in Kincaid, Ill., Proud to be in America and living just outside of Springfield, they named their only son Abraham Lincoln.Abes life was rich with love from his adoring wife Ella, his children, extended family and friends. Abe married his true love, Ella Stancato, in 1948 and remained committed until they parted briefly when Ella died in March 2014. On May 1 they would have been married for 66 years.Abe served in the Navy in WWII on the Warship USS Jaccard. Abe chose a career in Law Enforcement and worked his way up through the ranks to Commander of the Kenosha Police Department where he worked for over 35 years.Abe and Ella retired to the north woods of Wisconsin and enjoyed working on many projects, meeting new people and breathing the fresh air. Abe was a man of many talents. Born with a pocketknife in his hands, he handcrafted many intricately designed ducks, loons and song birds. He also made two wooden canoes, fireplace bellows, incredible knives and many other treasures that will enrich our lives for years to come. We will all remember Abes vegetable gardens, his fabulous homemade bread, his dinnertime family recollections that kept us all laughing and his never ending thirst for knowledge.Abe is survived by his three children, Celeste Toigo Cecchini (Dennis), Marc Alan Toigo (Lynn) and Teress Jill Toigo (Todd); four grandsons, Tennyson and Palmer Cecchini and Andrew and Ross Toigo; and one great grandson, Kayson Cecchini. He is also survived by his two loving sisters, Josephine (Toigo) Magos and Lena (Toigo) Trecroci, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lucy (Toigo) Giacomin and Mary (Toigo) Steele; his wife, Ella, and their granddaughter, Elizabeth Toigo.Abraham Lincoln Toigo was named after a great man and he spent his life living up to it.A Celebration of Life honoring Abe and Ella will be held on July 4, 2014, at the Toigo home.
