A Time To be Born: Willie Harris Jr. was born on February 13, 1949, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to proud parents Willie Harris Sr. and Mable Smith. He was the third of six children born to their union. He proudly carried his father’s name.
A Time to Plant: Brought up in a Christian family where his elders were the cornerstones of their church, Willie accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Bethel Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Even as a child, Willie enjoyed studying the Bible and learning who God is for himself and continued to do so throughout his life.
A Time to Build: Willie received his education from Scottlandville High School in the East Baton Rouge Parish School District.Willie began his military career in the U.S. Army in June of 1967 as a Private First Class. During his tenure, he served in the Vietnam War. Willie returned a vastly decorated war hero. He was awarded: The Bronze Star( awarded for heroic and meritorious deeds performed in armed conflict), The Bronze Star with Valor( the 4th highest award for military combat bravery), The Army Commendation medal, Combat Infantry badge, Vietnam Service medal, Army Achievement medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, and National Defense Service medal. Willie received an Honorable discharge from the U.S. Army as a Sergeant E-5 Promotable.
Willie made Houston, Texas his home and began a new career as an entrepreneur. He networked with businessmen and businesswomen from all over the globe and built a successful and well respected brand for himself. Several dignitaries from all over the world sought his wise counsel. His impact has helped many businesses that are still flourishing today. Willie’s expansive business knowledge deemed him as one of the top business consultants in the industry.
A Time to Love: Willie was a proud, kind,loving and devout father to four children; daughters Nailah(Jones)Morgan, Ada Hogan, Nykera Jones and son, Will Harvey. He loved his children dearly.
A Time to Weep: Willie’s mother and father preceded him in death, along with his first child Lumumba( a son who passed at childbirth),brothers Robert Harris, James Harris, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
A Time to Mourn: Left to cherish his beautiful memories are his Bonus Mom Rosalie Harris-Burgess and Aunt Delouise Doyle. His four children, Nailah Morgan(Langston), Ada Hogan(Jonathan), Nykera Jones and Will Harvey. His six grandchildren whom he cherished: Niani Cochran, Dan Morgan III (Trey), Jayla Caesar, Jaliyah Caesar, Rylee, and William Harvey. His three siblings he loved: Diane Singleton ( his beloved only sister), brothers Larry Harris and Herman Jerome Harris(Lucy). His nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own children and took on an active part in each of their lives. He also leaves a host of cousins, friends and extended family to cherish his memory as well.
