Verna M. ReberUPPER SANDUSKY: Verna M. Reber of Upper Sandusky, passed away December 27, 2016 in Florida, near her winter home in Sarasota at the age of 88. She was born on September 17, 1928 in Ashland, Kentucky to the late Ida Louise and Oscar Francis Straight. Verna was married to the late Thomas M. Reber for 49 years. She is survived by three daughters, Becky (Mark) Romich, Nancy (Mark) Johnson and Marty Reber, and four grandchildren, Jennifer Romich, David Romich, Katherine (Kyle) Treadway, and Greg (Rachael) Johnson. Verna was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Good and a brother, David Straight.Mrs. Reber was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Upper Sandusky. Other memberships include the Order of Eastern Star #366, Elks BPOE #83, Moose Lodge 1093, Amvets Post 777 and Ellis Lake Recreation Club. An avid golfer, she was a longtime member of Lincoln Hills Golf Club, Stone Crossing Golf Club, the former Hickory Grove Golf Club and Palm Aire Country Club of Sarasota, Florida. She enjoyed bridge, music, dancing, but her real love was her family and friends.Verna graduated from the Ohio State University with a degree in business education and was a lifetime member of the OSU Alumni Association. While at OSU, she joined the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and has been a member for the past 75 years. Verna also sang in the OSU Symphonic and Acapella choirs. After graduation, she taught in the McGuffey and Nevada school systems. She left teaching to raise her family. She was actively involved in many community programs including coordinating the volunteers for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile in Wyandot County for nearly 20 years.Verna managed the family farming operation and was an active owner and participant in the Thyber Land Company with Charlie and Sharon McCarthy. Verna was formerly a co-owner and operator of Jean's Shoppe, a ladies' apparel store, with her close friend, Edra Houser. She also organized the Wyandot County Edra Houser Memorial Golf Tournament from 1992 through 2003.Mrs. Reber's funeral will be held January 5, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Bringman Clark Funeral Home, 226 E. Wyandot Avenue, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351. Reverend Kenneth Wessler will officiate the ceremony. Family will receive friends at Bringman Clark Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm and one hour before the funeral on January 5. Memorial contributions can be made to Wyandot Memorial Hospital, First Presbyterian Church or Upper Sandusky Community Library.
