THOMAS W. JONES Obituary

Sep 01, 2016 - Dec 13, 2016

This obituary is administered by:

DELAWARE — Thomas W. Jones, of Radnor, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016 at Grady Hospital with his family around him.

He was born on Sept. 5, 1922, in the same house that he lived in for almost all his life, and is preceded in death by his parents, T. Arthur and Mabel (Jones (Jones).

He was a member of Radnor High School Class of 1940 and graduated from The Ohio State University College of Agriculture where he was a proud member of Alpha Zeta Fraternity. Tom served in the Army Air Corps in World War II as a navigation instructor for the B24 Liberator. He maintained lifelong friendships with his army buddies and fraternity brothers.

Tom married Freda Augenstein on Aug. 7, 1948. She preceded him in death in June 2000.

Following a long family tradition, Tom spent his life farming on his parents farm in Radnor. He was honored with a Century Farm Award for owning land in one family for over 100 years.

Tom's love for the soil continued into his retirement. In every open area on the farm, he grew vegetables and flowers which he always shared with family and friends.

Tom was a life member of the Radnor United Church of Christ, a church attended by his parents and grandparents.

Left to honor his memory and carry on his traditions is his loving partner, Joan Wells; two daughters, Ann (Steve Wood) Jones of Worthington, Carol (Bill) Lathrop of Marion, and son, Mark (Penny) Jones, also from Worthington. He enjoyed grandchildren, Bryn (Christopher) and Darcy (Tom), and Parker and Spencer Jones, as well as recent great-grandson, Gabriel.

The family wishes to extend warm thanks to the following special friends of Tom's: Tim Sheehan, Don Goodin, Dale Miller, and Dr. Mark Piacentini. All these friends enriched Tom's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that guests honor Tom's favorite hobby and send flowers to someone they love in his memory.

Donations may be made to the Radnor EMS station, the Marion Family Y, or the Radnor United Church of Christ.

Family and friends are invited to calling hours at the Robinson Funeral Home in Delaware on Friday, Dec. 2 from 4-7 p.m. with a burial service in Radnor Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3.

Condolences may be expressed to the family and memories shared online at www.RobinsonFuneralHomeInc.com.
