Jul 13, 1964 - Feb 13, 2015

This obituary is administered by:
Suzanne Gail YoungJuly 13, 1964 - February 13, 2015Suzanne passed away quite suddenly on the morning of February 13, 2015. She was born on July 13, 1964 to Lawrence D. and Ann K. Young in Ellensburg, Washington. From the beginning of her life, she was independent. She was known to her family and friends as Suzy. Then as she grew up, she became Sue.At the age of 15 she started taking karate lessons in the evenings at Central Washington University. Her mother was very happy when she became 16 and had her driver's license so that she could come and go to her lessons by herself. This led to Sue becoming a business owner in her late teens. And, finally she became owner/instructor for the Central Washington School of Karate. She was awarded a certificate title of "Shihan" recently from her lifelong instructor, Yakima School of Karate's, Morris Mack. Sensei Mack still called her Suzy. She graduated from Ellensburg High School and then from Central Washington University. She wanted to teach physical education to junior high students but was hired to teach high school students five years ago and was forever sold on that age group. She began teaching at Davis High School in Yakima, Washington and it proved to be the blessing of her life. She loved her colleagues and she loved her high school students. She completed her course work for a master's degree last fall from Western Governors University of Washington.Sue loved to travel and went to warm water places like Puerto Rico, Caribbean, etc, where she could scuba dive and enjoy the sun. She had a good friend and the two would cook up the next place they wanted to try. She also traveled in Europe and was planning another trip this early summer. She and her mother enjoyed traveling to the coast/ocean together or down the Oregon coast. They had previously enjoyed musicals at the Capital Theatre in Yakima and Fifth Avenue Theatre in Seattle. She was especially close to her brother Tim and called on him every time there was a dojo move or when she moved into her new home. They always spent holidays together. She was baptized Presbyterian and was a long standing member of the local Presbyterian Church. As a child growing up in her church she often said she knew every hiding place there was in the church. She currently held a position of Deacon. She is survived by her mother, Ann, her brother, Tim and her three cats, Attu, Minew and Keoko. Her father passed away in July, 1970.The family wishes in lieu of flowers, donations would be accepted at Brookside Funeral Home, 101 E. 2nd Ave., Ellensburg, to apply to a scholarship for a deserving Davis High School Student in Sue's name. Make checks payable to: Suzanne G. Young Scholarship. A Memorial Service will be held on February 28, 2015 at the First Presbyterian Church, 1307 E. 3rd Ave., Ellensburg, Washington at 1 p.m.Online condolences to the family may be left at www.brooksidefhc.comArrangements by Brookside Funeral Home & Crematory
