Suzan Neal Clark Obituary

Feb 01, 2017 - Jan 01, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Suzan Neal Clark, age 70, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Alaska Regional Hospital after an aggressive but brief battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was surrounded by her family.Suzan was born on Feb. 18, 1947, in Malad, Idaho, to Ferrell and Carolyn Neal. On March 15, 1966, Suzan married the love of her life, Ralph Clark, and together they raised three children. Their first daughter, Kim, was born in California while Ralph was serving in the Air Force. They welcomed a son, Tyler, while living in Utah, and another daughter, Jamie, while living in Alaska. Anchorage, Alaska, has been their home for the last 40 years, after driving the then not-fully-paved Alcan Highway in 1977. Suzan worked as a licensed cosmetologist for many years. Then, after they established life in Alaska and her children had gotten older, she began working flexible hours for Hallmark Greeting Cards and did so for over 20 years, eventually becoming a Territorial Assistant before retiring.Suzan was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held various positions in the church, teaching lasting lessons to children and young women, and serving many women and families in the Relief Society. She gave everything she had to service in these capacities. Many memories that resulted from her tireless service were shared at her memorial visitation. She was a fabulous cook, and her recipes and delicious dishes were staples at church functions, family events and holiday parties. She loved to read and would often read a book a day. She was a devoted and loving wife and mother, who cherished her family above all else. Their well-being and happiness was her first priority. She had a special place in her heart for her five grandchildren, who adored her, and is greatly missed by all of her family. She was kind, compassionate and generous, and her smile lit up a room as soon as she entered it. She was quick witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved to travel with her family, and made lasting memories in Hawaii, Alaska (especially Denali National Park), Idaho, Utah, Yellowstone National Park, the Grand Canyon, Disneyland, the Redwood Forest, the Oregon Coast and on a Church History Tour that extended from Utah to New York and back. She is survived by her loving sister, Sharon Carlisle (Jay) of Sandy, Utah; her husband of 51 years, Ralph Clark; and her children and their spouses, Kim and Peter Blanas, Tyler and Allison Clark and Jamie and Derek Hansen; five wonderful grandchildren, Ethan (8), Logan (5), Ryan (2), Hailey (5) and Brooklyn (2), all of Anchorage and Eagle River, Alaska. Per her wishes, a small memorial visitation and private family burial was held the weekend after her passing. Arrangements were handled by Kehl's Legacy Funeral Home. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses and doctors who cared for Suzan over the last two months, especially the nurses at Alaska Regional Hospital-6th floor Oncology Unit.
