Gone too soon
One February 05, 2022, Penelope Kae Colebank VanDyck, of North Kansas City, Missouri, lost her life as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident involving a drunk driver. She was only 33 years old.
Penelope was born on June 18, 1988 in Lawrence, Kansas, the daughter of Vincent and Darya (Petrov) Colebank. She loved people, which was a large part of why she chose to become a hairstylist. Helping others feel good about themselves was her true joy in life next to being a mother. Penelope would always say the birth of her two boys, Ronan and Sylas, were the best moments of her life.
Penelope was preceded in death by her husband, Erik VanDyck, her brother, Jameson Colebank, of Overland Park, Kansas and her grandmother, Svetlana (Petrov) Kuzmin, of Brooklyn, New York. Penelope is survived by her children, Ronan and Sylas VanDyck, her brothers, Liam Colebank, of Lee's Summit, MO, and William Colebank, of Lawrence, KS, and her parents, Vincent and Darya (Petrov) Colebank, of Lawrence, Kansas. Penelope leaves her paternal and maternal grandparents, several aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
While Penelope's family grieves her loss, they are choosing to remember Penelope in a way that honors her spirit. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home in Lawrence, KS. Penelope's parents, Vincent and Darya, and children, Ronan and Sylas, invite the community to a Celebration of Life Ceremony on Thursday, February 10th at 9:30AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donations to M.A.D.D. (Mother's Against Drunk Driving) program at Lawrence High School. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and can also be mailed to M.A.D.D., c/o Guidance Department, Lawrence High School, 1901 Louisiana St, Lawrence, KS 67044
