She was born on November 8, 1920 at Home Hospital, Lafayette, Indiana to Addie Justine Wilson McCorkle and John Russell McCorkle. She grew up on the family farm near Shawnee Mound, West Point, Indiana, where her ancestors had resided since the early 1800's. She graduated from Jackson Township High School in 1938 with many years of perfect attendance. She participated in theater, played piano, and received the Indiana Good Citizenship Award.Following high school, Patricia attended Purdue University majoring in home economics. She was initiated in the Alpha chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta in 1939 and was a life long member. She was also a member of Epsilon chapter of Tri Kappa, now known as Kappa Kappa Kappa, an Indiana women's philanthropic organization. In 1946, she joined the Washburn chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in which she was a life long member. After Purdue and until 1948, Patricia worked for the federal Department of Agriculture Farmers' Home Administration in Greencastle, Indiana. On August 7, 1948 she married Donald Edward Calmer (formerly of Sioux City, Iowa whom she met on a blind date) at the McCorkle family home and moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Their lives together would take them to Parma, Parma Heights and Brecksville, Ohio; Schenectady, New York; Western Springs, Illinois; Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania; and Carmel and Noblesville, Indiana. As she moved around the country, she would connect with the local Kappa Alpha Theta and DAR chapters and enjoy her new friends and communities. She worked extensively on her family genealogy in the United States stretching back into the 1600's. Following Donald's death at Noblesville, Indiana on November 12, 2012, Patricia moved to South Burlington to be near family.
