Psalm 23Osborne Brooks Harris of Petersburg, VA, a beloved husband, father, brother-in-law, uncle and grandfather, was called home on Thursday, October 20, 2016, at the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond.Osborne was born on October 9, 1936, in Petersburg, Virginia, to the late Ethel and Seabrooks Harris. He graduated from Peabody High School in 1959. He was a true Panther alumnus of Virginia Union University, Richmond, and Smith and Madden University, Richmond. He was the first black salesman at the Standard James Shoe Department in downtown Petersburg and also was an insurance agent for North Carolina Mutual. He retired from Fort Lee. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge #077 in Petersburg.Osborne was a faithful member of the Good Shepherd Baptist Church, Petersburg, VA. When going to church on Sunday, he and his lovely wife, Edna, always was the first one in the parking lot most of the time and they were a glowing well-dressed couple.Osborne loved to be neat with his clothing whether it be going or coming. He enjoyed computerized items, laughing and being around family. His favorite restaurant was Golden Corral where he loved the catfish. Every chance he got he loved to go shopping, bargain hunting and surfing the Internet.Osborne was preceded in death by his parents, Seabrooks and Ethel Ruffin; grandparents, Richard (Theadocia) Harris.Osborne leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 44 years, Edna M. Harris of Petersburg, VA; one daughter, Benita Harris; two sons, Ivan Harris (Janet) and Osborne Harris Jr.; sister, Ollie Mae Mathews; sisters-in-law, Yvonne Walker (Lawrence), Lucy Walker (Willie), Noreen Harper (Stanley), Corliss Neaves (Lynwood), Gloria Jones, Jade Bossier (Keith); brothers-in-law, Don (Tee) Gray, Steven Bagley, John Bagley, Roland James (Nellie) and devoted John Moore (Annie) and Howard Hairston; grandchildren, Beverly, Vanessa, Nekia, Justin and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Sabastian, Brialle and Kaiyana. Osborne had a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted cousins, Murial Wilkerson and Bobbie Armstrong; a devoted nephew, Terry Walker of Petersburg. His heart was also for the baby of the family, Diamond, the family dog. Osborne had a few devoted friends: Lloyd Harley, Willie Walker, Stanley Harper, Stephanie Dabney, Dorothy Williams and many more. A special thank you to Mary Ryles, godmother. Osborne made many friends as he went weekly to the Liberty Dialysis, Petersburg, VA. He made many smile as he brought sunshine to the place.Services for Mr. Osborne B. Harris will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Va., Bishop Jeffrey L. Reaves Sr., pastor, eulogist.
