OBITUARe makes it possible for families to honor and remember a loved one forever. In 2015, when we started on this journey, our guiding principle was simple – make it easy for people to create an obituary.
About a year later we released our first version of a service that included some basic, but useful features for people to easily create and share an obituary. Since then, we’ve worked to ensure growth in the right direction by listening to feedback from more than 300,000 customers. Our open dialogue has allowed us to build core features that we believe benefit our valued customers. This page was built to provide a cronology of the work we’ve done and give you insight on future features.

As more methods for interaction were built on obituary pages we wanted to ensure obituary owners could receive email notifications when their friends and family engaged on their loved one’s obituary. Emails are sent when users post comments, send condolences, like photos, plant flowers and sponsor the obituary.
Invite Collaborators to Share Photos – Added Functionality
Obituary owners can approve or reject photos uploaded by collaborators. Approved photos will appear in the photo gallery of the online obituary. Collaborators can also be deleted.
Modern Print Templates
In addition to our more traditional templates, users have the option to design their printable obituary, service program and memorial card with a fully customizable modern template.
Improved overall search performance. Visitors can easily “save a search” which allows them to receive an email when new obituaries are posted in a specific city.
Print Obituary – Live Edit
Obituary owners have more more flexibility to edit their print obituary templates and see the changes in real-time. Font sizes and types are customizable and users have the ability to choose which pages to print.
Subscribe to Obituaries
Visitors can subscribe to a specific obituary and be notified of new activity e.g. photos, comments, condolences, service updates, flowers.
A flower wall was added as a standard feature on every online obituary. Visitors can drag and drop flowers onto the wall and are asked to leave their first and last name. When you hover each flower the name of the sender is displayed.
Unique Background Themes
We made it easier for customers to improve the look of their obituary by choosing from a large selection of stock photos to set as their background.
Invite Collaborators to Share Photos
An obituary owner now has the ability to easily invite family and friends to share photos they have of a loved one. Users can send invitations to a single or multiple email address(es). An email will automatically be sent with a share link – no login required. Collaborators simply click on the link and upload photos. Once the upload is finished an email will be sent to the obituary owner notifying them.
Pay with Paypal
Users now have the option of paying for their obituary service with Paypal. Prior to this the only option was with a credit card.
Created a Service Program template that allows customers to print a bi-fold program that can be passed out at a memorial service.
Created a Condolence Card template that allows users to print their loved one’s picture and basic information on the front and then lines on the back for family and friends to write their condolences.
Allow visitors to click a single button that sends a message of condolence to the obituary owner. Visitors are allowed to sign in as a guest using their first and last name.
