A True Fighter Until The End

Michael Eric Hoggatt, 65, born on October 15, 1953, in Baltimore , Maryland, passed away December 12, 2018. He resided in Torrance , California at the time of his passing. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, California.

Michael E. Hoggatt was born in Baltimore, MD on October 15, 1953 to Julia & Alfred Hoggatt II. Michael is a veteran of the Vietnam War which he served in 1971. He followed in the legacy of his family that served in the Military. Michael met his wife Verna J. Randle when he was 19 years old and they were inseparable ever since. They had a total of six children together. Michael started his career working as a Manager at Firestone. He soon discovered his love for driving. He worked in the transportation industry as an owner operator for over 20 years travelling all over the country. He also started a trucking business with his son Michael and son-in-law Morris Thomas in his later years.

Michael was a devoted father & husband who loved to spend time with family. He loved to go fishing, raising birds, take family trips, playing the game of Dominoes and watching different sporting events. His favorite teams were the LA Dodgers, LA Lakers, and Oakland Raiders.

Michael will be truly missed for his great smile, incredible sense of humor, and resilient spirit. He never seemed to run out of things to talk about and never ran out of great ideas. Like his grand father, Alfred S. Hoggatt I, who patented the Automatic Crossing Guard. Michael love for great ideas inspired his family to always think big and to make a difference. He always looked out for everyone and provided support. You always felt love from him. He was the most honest and truthful person who gave great advise and never bit his tongue; nor bought into the political correct way of speaking. Because of how he lived his life and said what was on his mind, he is greatly missed. He was one of a kind. Many have said that he is the strongest person they've met due to him dealing with so many health issues over the years but never once stopped smiling or complaining. He was a true fighter until the end.

Michael's wonderful life will forever be cherished and remembered by his wife Verna Hoggatt and his children Tasha Hoggatt, Tamika Kinchlow, Nicole Owens, Julia Thomas, Michael Hoggatt Jr, his late son Eric Hoggatt. His son-in-laws Morris Thomas & Heath Owens, daughter-in-law Andersy Hoggatt. Also, his Grandchildren: Neil, Phoebe, Samara, Alyssa, Sophia, Jackson, Bella, and Jacadi. His niece and nephew whom he raised: Nakaia Brown & Felicia Griffin (Hoggatt). His brother, sisters and their children: Cheryl, Felicia (niece) and Leah (great-niece); Alfred (Butch), Aja (niece); Cynthia & a host of other family and friends whom he mentored and spent time.
