Melanie Dawn Sheldrake, age 64, of Lakeside Drive, Erie, Pa., passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016, at home, with her family and friends at her side. Melee was born on April 27, 1952, to the late Ralph Willis Conrad, and her mother Helen Clare Goodwin Conrad, in New Kensington, Pa. She grew up in Clearfield, Pa. and Indiana, Pa. Mel graduated from Indiana Area High School in 1970, and then attended the University of Pittsburgh and Edinboro University. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Art and Education. She then pursued a career as a jeweler and gemologist, which she worked at for many years. Mel later returned to college and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Her career progressed to her being a CRNN Nursing Case Manager for many years. Mel always loved the many people she worked with over the years. The loves of her life were her son Keith Sheldrake, July 4, 1985-March 21, 2012, and her husband, and high school sweetheart Lee, whom she wed on April 27, 1975. She loved horses and raised them for many years, and loved all animals her entire life. Mel loved her family, a large one with seven children. She was an accomplished artist and jeweler. Melanie was an avid boater and fisherwoman. She was a knowledgeable and skilled home builder. Melanie is survived by her mother Helen Clare Conrad of Tequesta, Fla., her husband Lee Sheldrake of Erie, brother Ed Conrad of Cranberry Township, Pa., sisters Karol and Denny Wells of Indiana, Pa., Cappie Bell of Indiana, Pa., Merialice and Fred Kozel of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Cindy and Dennis Barnhart of Mt. Lebanon, Pa., brother Scott and Bonnie Conrad of Chester, Va. If you knew Mel, please keep her alive in your thoughts.
